All modules

You are reading the documentation for version 1.1.8. Go to the current version (1.2.0)

This page gives an overview of the modules. It has one line for each module, with what the module adds and where to read about it. Everything else about the modules, such as their windows, designers and settings, is in their own part of this manual.

What each module adds

The modules are listed by category, in the order of the Modules screen.

The modules in your installation depend on what was installed. See your licence key. If a part of the documentation is not available to you, you do not have that module.

Engines and sources

The words engine and source have different meanings, and it helps to know the difference before you look for a switch.

An engine handles one type of material: Songs is the engine for songs, and Name plates is the engine for people. Without the engine, that type of material does not exist.

A source supplies material to an engine, as Playout.Studio does for songs and for people. A source has no window of its own. It appears as an extra Source in the window of the engine, so when the engine is off, that window does not exist and the source does not appear.

What modules change in this documentation

Three things in the base program become useful only with a module:

  • The Overlay column in the cue list. Modules use it, and it is empty in a base installation.
  • The overlay output. The playout carries only the layer that lies over the picture, and that layer is empty unless a module supplies graphics.
  • Templates and the designer. The mechanism belongs to the program, but the designers you see depend on your modules.

Everything else in the base program works without modules.

Why a button is missing

If a button is missing, the module is not installed or not switched on. It is never a setting that is hidden in another place. See Settings → Modules.
