Use this page when the STREAM button is on and nothing arrives, or when the status block continues to show connecting…. There are three possible causes, and the most likely is first.
1. The key
The key causes most stream problems. It has expired, the platform has replaced it, or it belongs to a different channel.
Copy the key again from the platform and paste it, because typing it causes mistakes. Then try again.
2. The address
| Check | |
|---|---|
| The server and the key are in separate fields | Do not paste both into one field |
The address starts with rtmps:// where the platform requires it | Some platforms accept only rtmps |
| There is no space at the beginning or the end | A space is easily copied from a web page |
If a platform provides one long address that includes the key, split it at the last slash. The part before the slash is the server, and the part after it is the key.
3. The network
Blocked outgoing ports for streaming are common in church and school buildings, because such a network was set up for browsing and not for broadcasting.
Test from the same computer, on the same network, when the network is not busy. If the stream works over the hotspot of a phone and not over the network of the building, the network is the cause, and you need the person who manages it.
The stream connects but drops frames
In this case, the bitrate is higher than the connection can carry. The status block counts the frames that the network could not carry, and if that number increases, you need to lower the total bitrate.
Set the total to a value that your upload can carry continuously, and not to the value of a single speed test. See encoder and bitrate.
The stream worked last week
Then something has changed, and it is almost always one of these:
- The platform replaced the key.
- Someone updated the router or the firewall.
- Another device on the network now uses the upload capacity.
- The rundown changed, and the picture now contains more movement.
While you look for the cause
Record to the local disk. If you cannot correct the stream in the time you have, you still have a recording of the service. REC is independent of the stream and needs almost no extra processing. See recording.
