Screen or projector

You are reading the documentation for version 1.1.8. Go to the current version (1.2.0)

This page describes how to show a playout full screen on another display. Use it for a screen in the hall, a monitor in the foyer, or a projector on the second output of the graphics card. You do not need extra hardware or a network.

The setting

Go to Settings → Outputs, set the type to Screen / projector, and choose a display under Which screen.

The playout then appears full screen on that display, without a title bar and without the interface of the program.

Directly from the panel

You can also show a playout on a screen without changing its output. To do so, right-click the monitor panel and choose Full screen on monitor.

This is the quick method during setup, because you can show the picture on the projector, check the framing and remove it again. The output setting is the permanent method, because the program keeps it after a restart.

What the status bar shows

The block shows screen 2 and nothing else, because there is no frame counter for this output. The engine render lag on the left of the status bar does include this picture, so check that figure if the picture stutters.

If someone closes the window, the block shows window closed. This is the only way this output can fail.

Practical notes

Set up Windows first. The display must be extended and not mirrored, and set to the correct resolution. If Windows uses 1280×720 for a projector, that is the resolution you get, whatever the canvas is.

The screen numbers follow Windows. So if the numbers are not what you expect, change the display arrangement in Windows.

The scaling is based on the canvas. The program builds the playout at the size of the canvas and then scales it to the display. See canvas and frame rate.

The program does not stop the screensaver. For a display that must stay on all day, switch off sleep mode and the screensaver in Windows.
