This page is for the person who makes a backup, moves the installation or needs the log. It describes the installation. The files of the operator, such as rundowns and exports, are described in part 9.
On disk
The program itself is in Program Files:
C:Program FilesUltimate Playout
UltimatePlayout.exe <- the launcher
Modules <- the modules, and which are switched on
engineconfig <- settings, scenes, designs and logs
The work of the operator is in Documents:
DocumentsUltimate Playout
Lists Exports Bundles <- rundowns, exports and unpacked bundles
(modules may add folders of their own)
The configuration folder
The folder engineconfig contains the complete setup of the computer: the outputs, the playouts, the colours, the templates, the scenes, and the state in which the program starts again.
Every user of the computer can write to this folder, which means that all users share one setup. Decide in advance whether this is what you want. It is correct for a control-room PC with changing volunteers, because each person finds the computer as the previous person left it. It is not suitable for a workstation where users expect personal settings. In that case, use separate computers or separate Windows installations.
The logs
The logs are in engineconfigobs-studiologs. There is one file for each session, with the date and time in its name. The logs record what the program did: which modules it loaded, which outputs it started, and every GO with its cue and transition.
So look at the logs first when you need to explain a problem, and send them when you report one. See sending logs.
What to back up
| Back up | Why |
|---|---|
DocumentsUltimate Playout | Your rundowns and bundles. They cannot be replaced |
| The media folder | For the same reason |
engineconfig | With a backup, you do not need to set up a replacement computer from the beginning |
You do not need to back up the program, because you can install it again with the setup.
Moving to another computer
- Install the program on the new computer.
- Copy
engineconfigto it. The program must be closed on both computers. - Copy
DocumentsUltimate Playoutand the media. - Check the outputs, because device names and screen numbers belong to the computer and not to the configuration.
The last step is often forgotten. The settings are copied, but the DeckLink port and the screen number on the new computer can be different.
