A playout with the output Stream / recording sends its picture to a server, to a file, or to both. The program encodes the picture once and uses it for both, so a recording beside a stream costs almost no extra processing power.
The pages follow the order in which you set things up: first the server, then the recording, then the quality, and finally how you operate and check the stream during a show.
| Page | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Streaming | The server, the key and signing in. |
| Recording | Where the file is saved, and in which format. |
| Encoder and bitrate | Which encoder, size and bitrate to use. |
| Status and figures | The STREAM and REC buttons, and how to check that the stream is being sent. |
Before you start
Three things determine whether streaming works, and none of them are in the program:
- The upload capacity that you can rely on, which is not always the figure in your contract.
- The requirements of the server: the protocol, the bitrate and the key.
- A computer with spare capacity, because encoding is the heaviest task of a playout.
Test the whole chain once, at the bitrate you plan to use, at a time when nothing depends on it. The rest of this part assumes that you have done this.
