The archive folder

You are reading the documentation for version 1.2.0. Go to the current version (1.2.1)

The archive is a folder at the top of the list for cues that you do not use today. Use it for a clip that you may need, a notice that was cancelled this morning, or a block that you use every other week. Everything in the archive stays in the list and keeps its settings, but it is not part of the show.

What the archive is

One group in each list can be the archive. It has three properties that other groups do not have:

  • It is always at the top of the list, and you cannot move it.
  • It has no number, and the lines inside it have no number either.
  • It never plays. Arming, GO and automatic follow actions all skip it.

An empty line below the archive separates it from the show, so it never looks like the first item.

Adding a line to the archive

To create the archive, use the arrow beside Hold → Archive. A list can have only one archive. After that, you can drag lines onto it, or right-click a selection and choose Move to archive.

A cue that is on air stops immediately when you move it to the archive, and the playout goes to black. If the cue was armed, the green line moves to the first line that is part of the running order.

Taking a line out of the archive

Right-click the line and choose Take out of archive. The line returns to the end of the running order with all its settings, and it gets a number again. You can then drag it to the right place.

When to use the archive

SituationWhy the archive is suitable
A notice that was cancelled this morningThe notice is still available if the decision changes
A clip that you may need if something takes too longYou can find it in seconds, without a file window
A block that you use every other weekThe block stays in the list, so you do not need to keep it in a separate folder
Tidying a list that you took over from someone elseYou do not delete anything while you find out what each line is for

What the archive is not

The archive is not a recycle bin. The program never removes lines from it, and it saves the archive with the list. If a list collects forty archived lines in a year, the program still loads all of them, so clear the archive from time to time.
