The licence key, which you enter during the installation, decides which modules the setup offers you. This page explains what the key does, and what it does not do.
Where it is used
The setup shows a page where you enter the key from your account page. With that key, the setup asks the website which modules belong to your account, and it then offers those modules.
You can supply the key in three ways:
| How | When |
|---|---|
| You type it | The normal case. The key is on your account page. |
| On the command line of the setup | For an unattended installation on several computers. |
| Inside the installer | When the download was prepared for your account. Nobody needs to type anything. |
Leaving the field empty
You can leave the field empty. You then get only the modules supplied with the installer. The setup does not report the installation to the website, and the Info page (Help → About this program…) shows no known account. The update checks on that page do not work either, because they need the key. To change this, run the setup again and enter a key.
When the key does not work
If the key was mistyped, if there is no internet connection, or if the key has been withdrawn, the setup shows a message and continues with the modules that were included. A computer that cannot reach the website still gets a working program.
What the key is not
The program does not check the key while you broadcast. After the installation, the program and its modules just work. Nothing contacts the website before a service, so a network failure on the day of a broadcast does not change what is on screen.
The key does not switch modules on. It decides which modules the setup offers. You switch modules on and off later under Modules → Manage modules…, and that needs no internet connection.
Where to see it later
Installed for on the Info page (Help → About this program…) shows the account that the installation belongs to, or no known account when the program was installed without a key.
The same page has Check for module updates…, which uses the account to see which modules are available to you.
