A playout whose output is set to Stream / recording goes to a server, to a file, or to both at once. The picture is encoded once and sent both ways, so recording alongside a stream costs almost nothing extra.
| Page | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Streaming | Server, key, and signing in. |
| Recording | Where the file goes, and why it is an MKV. |
| Encoder and bitrate | What to encode with, at what size, at what rate. |
| Status and figures | The STREAM and REC buttons, and reading whether it is really going out. |
Before you start
Three things decide whether this works, and none of them are in the program:
- Upload capacity you can actually rely on, not the number on the contract.
- The server’s requirements: which protocol, which bitrate, which key.
- A machine with headroom. Encoding is the heaviest thing a playout does.
Test the whole chain once, at the bitrate you intend, at a moment when it does not matter. Everything else in this part assumes you have.
