Still

You are reading the documentation for version 1.0.1. Go to the current version (1.1.6)

This page covers the still: a single picture. The simplest cue there is, and the one a rundown uses most after media — welcome slides, notices, a closing card.

Adding one

Still in the toolbar, or drag image files onto the list. Every picture becomes its own cue.

What it shows

png, jpg, jpeg, jpe, bmp, gif, tga, psd, jxr and webp.

tiff and avif are deliberately absent: the engine does not load them, and a type that would silently produce nothing is better refused at the door. Convert those to png first.

An animated gif animates.

How long it stays

This is the setting that matters, and it lives in the Out column:

OutWhat happens
00:00The still stays until you press GO. Its follow action never fires, because nothing ever ends.
A timeThe still ends at that point and the follow action decides what happens next.

So a picture that must hang there while somebody talks needs no duration at all, and a picture that must give way to the next item by itself needs one.

Sizing

A still is shown fitted to the canvas. A picture with different proportions than your canvas gets bars rather than a crop, so nothing important is cut off without you seeing it.

For a full-screen slide, export at the canvas size — 1920×1080 for the usual canvas. That is the one way to be certain no scaling happens at all.

Practical notes

Transparency works. A png with an alpha channel keeps it, which matters when the playout feeds a key layer into a mixer.

Very large pictures cost memory, not processor. A folder of 40-megapixel photos in a rundown is the one case where scaling them down beforehand is worth the trouble.

For a series of pictures that advance by themselves, use a stills playlist instead of a row of separate stills.
