This page covers the practical side. Where the switches are, when a change takes effect, and what it does to rundowns that were built with a module you turn off.

Where
Settings → Modules. Every installed module with an Enable box, grouped by category, with its version.
A module that is on puts its settings on a page for its category, in the list on the left under Modules — in the picture, Text & overlay.
Modules were chosen when the program was installed; the setup asks which to install and which to switch on straight away. Installing without activating is a valid choice — the module is on disk, and this screen is where you enable it later.
When it takes effect
Tick Enable and press Apply or OK. The module starts or stops there and then; no restart is needed.
What happens to your rundowns
Switching a module off does not change your lists. The cues stay where they are, with their titles and their settings.
What disappears is what that module drew. A song cue without the song module is a line that puts nothing on screen. Switch the module back on and it works again.
That means a list is never damaged by switching modules — but a show is, if you switch something off and then run the rundown that depended on it.
Before a service
Check this screen when a machine has been reinstalled or updated, and check it against what your rundown needs. Two minutes, and it catches the failure mode that is otherwise only discovered live.
Do not update modules during a service. Fetching them stops the modules for a moment — see Info.
When the modules will not start
Modules run in a process of their own, upmod-runner.exe. If it cannot start, a window titled Modules could not start says which of the causes it is, and none of them stop the base program:
| The message begins | Usually |
|---|---|
| Windows refused to start upmod-runner.exe | Antivirus, or a file blocked after copying |
| upmod-runner.exe is missing | An incomplete installation |
| upmod-runner.exe started but did not respond | Antivirus scanning the program |
| upmod-runner.exe did not start in time | Antivirus holding the file; the program carried on without modules |
| The installation is incomplete | Program and modules from different versions |
Where antivirus is the cause, the message names the folder to add to its exclusions. The other two need a reinstall, so that everything comes from the same version.
Where they live on disk
C:Program FilesUltimate PlayoutModules, with a small file recording which
of them should be on. Nothing there needs editing by hand; this screen writes it.
